TEXAS WISEWOMEN SPEAK

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Typical questions PJ asked while interviewing the women in the book

  • What makes you feel most alive?
  • What are some principles by which you live?
  • What have you found that really matters about life? And, conversely, what did you once think important that you since have found to be unimportant?
  • What are some of the most difficult things you have ever done?
  • In one sentence, offer your most sage bit of advice to generations coming behind you, and then elaborate.
  • Reflect on your proudest accomplishments and, if you wish, your most bitter disappointments.
  • Has your upbringing in Texas influenced the way you have lived your life? Do Texas women tend to be different from other American women?
  • If you were a young woman starting out to build your life today, what would you do or not do again? Or, what might you do differently?
  • What have you learned from your successes and mistakes?
  • What are you still learning?
  • Did you (do you) have a mentor? Female? Male? What have you learned from her/him?
  • Cite instances when you have felt especially successful and satisfied.
  • Has there been a moment in your life when perceived failures disheartened you and you thought you couldn't go on? If so, how did you get through it? What did you learn? From failure? From persistence in the face of discouragement?
  • Do you have specific advice about nurturing yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually, setting boundaries, balancing your life?
  • What new insights have you learned since you have gotten older?
  • Which age have you enjoyed the most? Why?
  • Where do you find a real sense of community?
  • Where do you find spiritual comfort?
  • What excites you about the future?
  • What else is there for you personally to conquer in this lifetime?
  • What do you do to recharge your energy?
  • Is there anything else you would like to impart to readers?
